Henry L. Giclas
Henry Lee Giclas (December 9, 1910 – April 2, 2007) was an American astronomer who discovered many minor planets and comets. He is also known for hiring Robert Burnham Jr. at Lowell Observatory. He led a famous proper motion survey of nearby stars, with several stars bearing his name, such as Giclas 99-49. The Minor Planet Center credits him with discovering 17 numbered minor planets between 1943 and 1978, including 2201 Oljato, likely the parent body of the Chi Orionids meteor shower, and 2061 Anza, near-Earth asteroids in the Apollo and Amor groups. He discovered 84P/Giclas in 1978, a Jupiter-family comet. He died of a stroke in Flagstaff, Arizona, at age 96. The Pluto crater Giclas and asteroid 1741 Giclas were named in his honor.
