List of dual-threat quarterback records
Dual-threat quarterbacks are players who can throw the ball and run with it, making them dangerous in both air and on the ground. They’ve been especially prominent at the college level.
In the NFL, Cam Newton is the all-time leader in rushing attempts by a quarterback with 1,118. Josh Allen has the most career rushing touchdowns by a QB with 79, and Lamar Jackson has the most rushing yards by a quarterback with 6,522.
In the Canadian Football League, Damon Allen holds the quarterback rushing records for both yards (11,920) and rushing touchdowns (93).
Drew Tate of the Calgary Stampeders led CFL rushing TDs in 2014 with 10, coming mainly in short-yardage situations. He scored two 1-yard touchdowns in the 102nd Grey Cup.
Notes on how stats are counted: NCAA college totals follow official policy that bowl game stats began counting toward single-season and career totals in 2002. Older players, like Heisman winner Eric Crouch, may appear lower on all-time lists because bowl performances before 2002 aren’t included in official totals.
In Canadian football, the wider (65-yard) and longer (110-yard) field helps QBs find running lanes, and quarterback sneaks or other short-yardage runs often succeed because the distance between the lines is one yard.
Stats are current through the 2025 NFL regular season and the 2025 CFL regular season. College totals reflect NCAA rules, with bowl contributions counted starting in 2002; bowl stats before 2002 are documented separately.
