An astronomical instrument is a device used to observe, measure, or record things in space. Astronomy is the science that studies stars, planets, galaxies, and other objects to understand how the universe began and how it changes over time. Some instruments are also used for navigation and mapping the Earth. Examples include telescopes, binoculars, cameras, spectrometers, radio telescopes, satellites, astrolabes, sextants, and radar.
