List of Telugu castes
Telugu castes: A simple guide to the communities in the Telugu-speaking regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and how they relate to government reservations.
- Forward Castes, also called Other Castes (OC), do not qualify for government reservations. Some groups in these states are listed as OC and arranged alphabetically here.
- Some communities are classified as Other Backward Classes (OBC) by the Central government or as BC by state governments because of social, economic, educational, or political discrimination.
- Some lists put groups in different categories, and some communities may appear under different classifications in different lists.
- Scheduled Castes (SCs) are officially designated, among the most disadvantaged groups, and receive reservations and various benefits such as political representation, promotions, university quotas, scholarships, and banking services.
- The Scheduled Castes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are listed alphabetically here.
- Backward castes are grouped into five categories: A, B, C, D, and E. Reservations for these groups depend on several factors, mainly the size of their population.
