NHL teams faced Soviet league clubs in the Super Series from 1976 to 1991. After the Soviet era, there were no post-Soviet vs NHL games until 2008, when Metallurg Magnitogorsk played the New York Rangers in the Victoria Cup. In 2010, NHL teams again played on post-Soviet ice, the first time since 1990.
