Saracha quitensis is a flowering plant in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is a spiny shrub or small tree that grows up to about 3.5 meters tall and is native to Ecuador, Colombia, and northwestern Venezuela. The plant has dark green leaves, pale yellow bell-shaped flowers, pale yellow filaments, greenish-purple anthers, a pale style, and a green stigma. Its fruit is a top-shaped (turbinated) berry. Conservation status: Data Deficient (IUCN 3.1). Scientific classification: Kingdom Plantae; Order Solanales; Family Solanaceae; Genus Saracha; Species S. quitensis. It has had several other scientific names in the past, including Acnistus quitensis and Lycium quitense.
