List of Helmet band members
Helmet is an American alternative metal band formed in 1989 in New York City. The original lineup was Page Hamilton (guitar, vocals), Peter Mengede (guitar), Henry Bogdan (bass), and John Stanier (drums). They released Strap It On (1990) and Meantime (1992). In 1993, Mengede was fired on February 17; he later formed Handsome. Rob Echeverria joined to record the 1994 album Betty but left in 1996 to join Biohazard. Aftertaste was recorded with Hamilton playing all guitars as a three-piece. The band toured with Chris Traynor and broke up in 1998.
In 2003 there were reports Helmet reformed with Rob “Blasko” Nicholson on bass and John Tempesta on drums alongside Hamilton and Traynor, but a spokesperson later clarified that Hamilton and Traynor were working on a separate project. In early 2004 the band officially reformed, with Frank Bello on bass and Tempesta on drums. Bello left in early 2005 to return to Anthrax, with Jeremy Chatelain taking his place for remaining dates. Tempesta left in early 2006 to join The Cult, and Mike Jost joined on drums. In September 2006 more changes followed as Traynor and Jost left. Kyle Stevenson (drums) and Jon Fuller (bass) joined, and Chatelain left. Jimmy Thompson briefly replaced Traynor but stayed until late 2007, after which Dan Beeman took over in 2008.
Helmet released Seeing Eye Dog in 2010, with Traynor returning on bass; Dave Case became the touring bassist around that time. The band released Dead to the World in 2016, the first album to feature Case on bass.
