Lindale Mall
Lindale Mall is a large indoor shopping mall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on the northeast side of the city. It is anchored by Von Maur, with outparcels that include a freestanding Jo-Ann store, a jewelry shop, several restaurants, and a Planet Fitness near the main entrance.
The mall began as Lindale Plaza and opened on September 15, 1960, after plans for an open-air center faced opposition from downtown merchants. The original anchors were Sears, Younkers, and Killian’s. Lindale Plaza became an enclosed mall in 1980 and was renamed Lindale Mall. In 1981, Killian’s was replaced by Von Maur after Killian’s bankruptcy.
A major expansion in 1997 added a new 500-space parking ramp and a 500-seat food court. Lindale Mall was built by Bernard Greenbaum and Associates and has changed ownership several times, including General Growth Properties, Equitable Life, and SDG Macerich. In 2014 it was spun off to Washington Prime Group, which later became WP Glimcher. Washington Prime Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2021. In 2023, Kohan Retail Investment Group bought Lindale Mall for $28.5 million.
Sears closed in July 2018 and Younkers closed in August 2018, leaving Von Maur as the only traditional anchor. Part of the former Sears space was planned to become Planet Fitness. In 2025, plans were approved to bring a large Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport to the former Sears space.
