Brian Grant (director)
Brian Grant is a British director and producer known for music videos and television. In 1982 he co-founded MGMM Productions with Scott Millaney, Russell Mulcahy, and David Mallet, which became one of the UK’s leading production companies in the 1980s. He began as a cameraman and later became a prominent music video director, while also shooting films and TV series. He directed episodes of well-known British series such as Doctor Who, Hex, As If, Party Animals, Clocking Off, The Worst Witch and Our Girl, and worked on Highlander: The Series and Britannia High. He has BAFTA and Emmy nominations. He directed many commercials and music videos in the 1980s for Olivia Newton-John, Donna Summer, Peter Gabriel, Queen, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Aretha Franklin. His Olivia Newton-John video Physical won the first Video of the Year Grammy at the 25th Annual Grammy Awards. He also directed Donna Summer’s 1983 video She Works Hard for the Money, which was nominated for five MTV awards and helped Summer gain high rotation on MTV. He directed her HBO concert A Hot Summer Night and also shot two Whitney Houston videos, How Will I Know and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).
