Lignac is a commune in the Indre department of central France, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. It sits in the southwest corner of the department, near the historic regions of Berry, Poitou and La Marche, in the foothills of the Massif Central and inside the Brenne regional natural park, known for its lakes and wildlife. The Anglin River forms part of the eastern border of the commune.

The name Lignac probably goes back to Roman times; a landowner named Linius may have lived here, giving rise to forms such as Liniacum or Villa Linii.

Within Lignac lies the hamlet of Château Guillaume, which was its own commune until 1829. The Chateau of Lignac was built in the 15th century in the village center, but today only two base pillars of the gateway remain. The Church of Saint Christophe dates from the 11th–12th centuries.

Lignac covers 167.03 square kilometers and has a population of 457 (2023), giving a low density of about 6.8 people per square kilometer. The elevation ranges from 104 to 197 meters (about 341–646 feet), with an average around 160 meters. The commune is governed by Mayor Michèle Ballet for 2020–2026. The postal code is 36370 and the INSEE code is 36094.
