Edward John Speleers, born 7 April 1988 in Chichester, England, is an English actor. He’s best known for his roles in Eragon, Downton Abbey, Outlander, You, and Star Trek: Picard. He lives in Bristol, is married to Asia Macey, and they have two children. He is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur football club.

Early life and education: Speleers is of Belgian descent. His parents separated when he was three, with his mother living in Spain and his father in London. He has two older half brothers. While at school he acted in plays like A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Richard III, and he wrote a short play called Retribution that was performed at Eastbourne College, which he attended. He finished school in 2006.

Career highlights: Speleers’ first major role was the lead in Eragon (2006). He later appeared in Downton Abbey as Jimmy Kent. He gained wider fame as the pirate Stephen Bonnet in Outlander and more recently as Rhys Montrose in You (2023) and Jack Crusher in Star Trek: Picard (2023). In 2024 he co-starred in Irish Wish with Lindsay Lohan and appeared in Midas Man. He’s also worked on other projects, including short films and stage roles.
