Lexoo
Lexoo is a UK-based legal technology company founded in June 2014 and based in London. It helps businesses hire lawyers online through a global network of about 1,100 lawyers in 70 countries, making legal work easier and more affordable. The company was started by Daniel van Binsbergen, a former corporate lawyer, and Chris O'Sullivan, a developer.
Funding and growth milestones include a seed round of $400,000 in 2014 from Forward Partners and Jonathan McKay, followed by $1.3 million raised in 2015 from investors including the London Co-Investment Fund and other partners. In 2018, Lexoo secured $4.4 million in a Series A led by Earlybird, with participation from Forward Partners and Ned Staple of Zoopla. In March 2024, Lexoo was acquired by the Kalexius group.
What Lexoo does and why it matters: The platform brings transparency to legal fees by letting participating solicitors quote upfront in a competitive online market. Forbes described Lexoo as “the democratisation of legal services,” noting that lawyers compete on price. The Financial Times named Lexoo an “Innovation to Watch” in 2015, and Startups.co.uk listed it among the UK’s Top 100 startups that year. Lexoo has been covered by multiple outlets, and in 2019 Harvard Business School used Lexoo as a case study to explore its growth and its shift from serving SMEs to in-house legal departments.
