Lex and Terry is an American syndicated morning radio show hosted by Lex Staley and Terry Jaymes. Based in Dallas, Texas, the program is distributed by United Stations Radio Networks and airs on weekday mornings across many stations in the United States. The current team includes Lex Staley, Terry Jaymes, with Dee Reed as executive producer/air talent and Sarah B. Morgan as a longtime staff member.

History

- 1992: Lex and Terry began in Jacksonville, Florida on WFYV-FM. Their debut was controversial and drew heavy listener response, signaling a bold, locker-room style that set the tone for the show.
- Late 1990s: The duo launched a syndication effort, starting in Dallas on KDGE “Q-102” while still airing in Jacksonville and expanding to other markets such as Savannah (WFXH) and Gainesville. The show became known for frank relationship talk, sports, and provocative humor, along with promotional stunts.
- 1998: Corporate consolidations changed the radio landscape. KDGE dropped Lex and Terry, and the show moved back to Jacksonville, while continuing to grow in other markets.
- 2000s: By 2005, Lex and Terry were heard on about 22 stations and had joined XM Satellite Radio. They switched distributors from Cox Radio to Clear Channel (later iHeartMedia) before moving to United Stations.
- Jacksonville and other markets continued to rotate stations, with the show facing various format changes. For example, WRUF-FM dropped the show in 2005 over a controversial segment, later returning it briefly before changes in 2010 shifted station lineups again. A Dallas-based run continued to evolve as the market and corporate structures changed.

Dallas and distribution changes

- The Dallas market became a powerhouse for Lex and Terry. The show established itself as a top morning program in the metro area, then faced a move in 2008 to KEGL “The Eagle” as part of a station shift. After corporate changes, including Bain Capital’s involvement with Clear Channel and the station’s transition to iHeartMedia, Lex and Terry operated without a single flagship Dallas station and moved to distribution through United Stations.

Personnel

- Over the years, Lex and Terry’s staff saw many changes. News directors and producers came and went (for example, Kim McCafferty left in 2007; Scott Richards served as producer until 2008; Jason Carr and later Devell Reed took on leadership roles). Ian Gleason joined as news director in 2012 but was let go in 2019. In 2016, long-time on-air staffer Sarah Morgan left and was briefly replaced by Krystina Byford; Morgan later returned. These changes reflected shifts in budgets and programming priorities across markets.

In short, Lex and Terry built a nationwide morning show from a controversial Jacksonville start to a respected syndicated program heard on numerous stations. The team has weathered corporate consolidations, station format changes, and personnel shifts, continuing to reach listeners with a mix of relationship talk, humor, and pop culture.
