Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Leptoichthys fistularius, the brush-tailed pipefish, is the largest pipefish species, growing up to 63 cm long. It lives in shallow to mid-depth waters off southern Australia, usually among seagrass beds, and belongs to the family Syngnathidae. Like other pipefishes, the male carries fertilized eggs in a pouch under his tail until they hatch. The genus name comes from Greek words meaning “thin fish,” and the species name refers to the head’s resemblance to flutehead or cornetfish of the family Fistulariidae. It is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN. Synonyms include Leptoichthys castelnaui.
