Lee Jye
Lee Jye (李傑) was born on June 6, 1940, in Tianjin, China. He is a Taiwanese former military officer and politician. Lee served as Taiwan’s Minister of National Defense from May 20, 2004, to May 21, 2007, under President Chen Shui-bian, and also held the role of Minister without Portfolio during that time. Before that, he was the 18th Chief of the General Staff of the ROC Armed Forces from February 1, 2002, to May 19, 2004. He retired as a senior admiral in the ROC Navy. Lee joined the Kuomintang early in his career but was expelled by the party in 2007 for supporting Chen’s orders to remove Chiang Kai-shek statues from military bases, and he has been independent since then. He is married to Cheng Hui-chin.
