Lee Hyun-gon
Lee Hyun-Gon (Korean: 이현곤; born February 21, 1980) is a former South Korean professional baseball infielder and the current coach for the NC Dinos in the KBO League. He played mainly at shortstop and third base, and he bats and throws right-handed.
He grew up in Gwangju, attended Gwangju Jaeil High School and Yonsei University, and played for South Korea’s national teams as a youth. He signed with the Kia Tigers in 2002 and played for Kia from 2002 to 2012, then joined the NC Dinos as a player from 2013 to 2014. He became a coach for the NC Dinos in 2015 and has held that role since.
Career highlights include a KBO batting championship in 2007 and a Korean Series title in 2009. His career stats are a .272 batting average, 23 home runs, and 267 RBIs.
Notable moments include a grand slam off Ryu Hyun-jin in the 2006 semi-playoffs, and a strong showing in the 2009 Korean Series where he batted .316 with a home run. In the NC Dinos’ 2013 franchise debut season, he stole the club’s first base, hit its first double, and scored its first run. His last appearance in the KBO was in 2014, after which he became a coach for the Dinos.
