Kosmas the Zographite
Kozma Zografski, also called Kosmas the Zographite, was a Bulgarian saint from Tarnovo who lived in the 13th and early 14th centuries. Born to a noble family, he was well educated and spoke Greek. Although his family wanted him to marry, he chose to become a monk and traveled to Mount Athos. There he joined the Zograf Monastery, but later carved a rock cell near the monastery and lived there as a hermit until his death on 22 September 1323. His life was written as a hagiography in Greek and translated into Bulgarian in 1802 by protohegumen Euthymius. According to the hagiography, he could see spirits hidden from ordinary people. He is venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church, and his feast day is 22 September.
