Komödie im Bayerischen Hof is a private theater inside the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Germany. The 570-seat venue shows comedies, musical comedies, musicals and revues. Cultural events at the hotel began in 1886, but ended in 1944 due to the war. After the hotel was rebuilt, the founder’s grandmother, a famous singer, opened a concert hall. Her son, Falk Volkhardt, hired architect Erwin Schleich to design the current theater, which opened in 1961 under director Gerhard Metzner with the play Das Glas Wasser by Eugène Scribe. The hotel is run by Innegrit Volkhardt, and the artistic program has been led by Margit Boenisch since the 1992-93 season. The theater has hosted many stars and also offers boulevard theatre and children’s shows, especially at Christmas. The hall is also used for corporate parties, meetings and anniversaries.
