Thomas “Tommy” Poynton (born the second quarter of 1885 in the Pontefract district, West Riding of Yorkshire, England – died the second quarter of 1942 in the Pontefract district, aged 57) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. He played as a three-quarter (wing or centre) for Wakefield Trinity from 1906 to 1915, making 203 appearances and scoring 111 tries, 6 goals, for 345 points. He also represented Yorkshire and earned England honours, winning a cap for England in 1911 against Australia.

Poynton debuted for Wakefield Trinity in February 1906. He played centre in Wakefield Trinity’s 8–2 Yorkshire Cup Final win over Huddersfield in December 1910 and in the 1914 Challenge Cup Final, a 0–6 defeat to Hull F.C. He had a joint testimonial match in 1922 against Yorkshire. Poynton was permanently disabled during World War I. He was related to rugby league footballer Harold Poynton.
