Kelly Park Compton Crips
The Kelly Park Compton Crips (KPCC) are a Crips gang set that started in Kelly Park on the East Side of Compton, California. They are mainly African-American and allied with the Crips. Their rivals include Mob Piru, Elm Street Piru, and Lueders Park Piru. Notable members have included Eazy-E, MC Ren, and Tweedy Bird Loc.
In December 1985, 15-year-old Charles "Beeb" Stevens was shot in a drive-by in Kelly Park. In response, KPCC members planned retaliation against a Lueders Park Piru member. On December 29, 1985, 30-year-old Don Turner, a former Lueders Park Piru member, was shot in Lueders Park, seemingly in retaliation. A police task force of 43 officers raided Kelly Park, arresting 18-year-old Eric Darnell Garrett and 24-year-old Dennis Earl Reed as suspects in Turner’s killing. Two 15-year-olds and one 14-year-old were also arrested. Charges were later dropped against Reed, while 21-year-old Kenneth Brown surrendered and faced charges in Turner’s killing.
In July 1986, the Compton Police Department opened a police substation in Kelly Park to address gang activity. Police banned wearing gang colors in the area—blue for Crips, red for Bloods, and green for the Lime Hood Piru. After the substation opened, the level of criminal incidents in Kelly Park declined significantly.
