Kattachira Church

Kattachira Church, also known as the Global Marian Pilgrim Centre, is in Bharanikkavu, Kerala. It belongs to the Kollam Diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church and follows Syriac and Malayalam traditions. The church is dedicated to Saint Mary, and the current vicar is Roy George.

A remarkable feature here is the appearance of aromatic oil linked to the Icon of the Mother of God. Since October 21, 2009, oil that looks like tears has been seen flowing from the eyes of Saint Mary in a flex photograph inside the chapel. The oil is said to keep flowing even when it is wiped away. Similar oil has also been observed coming from the Holy Qurbono Taksa on the altar, the Cross near the photo, and the Apostolic Bull of Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas.

Historically, the Malankara Jacobite Syrians who stayed loyal to the Apostolic Throne of Antioch needed a new place of worship after Kattanam parish became closed due to an issue with the Indian Orthodox church. In November 2009, Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I declared the chapel a Global Marian Pilgrim Centre. On February 15, 2015, Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II visited the church, offered incense, attended a public function, and delivered a Holy Speech.
