Karnol
Karnol is a village and union council in Mansehra District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It sits about 797 meters above sea level, southeast of Abbottabad near the Kashmir border. The area was affected by the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
The village was founded by Khan Ameer-Ullah Khankhail. For a long time, Karnol and nearby Baralkot produced revenue for the Khankhail family, who were the local landowners. After 1965, some land was distributed to others when Qayyum Khan became minister. The Khankhail family remains influential and has donated land for a Nadra office, a Patwar Khana (land records office), and schools.
Local governance is based on a Jirga (tribal council). The village is led by Nazim Shoukat Nawaz Khankhail and Chairman Sajid Ali Khankhail.
The Khankhail Swatis are the main residents, tracing their ancestry to Habibullah Khan’s two sons, Bahadur Khan and Arsala Khan. The other two sons were killed in the Kargil War, along with their grandfather Habibullah Khan.
