Pretty Ricky
Pretty Ricky is an American R&B and hip hop group from Miami, Florida. The original members were two brothers, Diamond (Baby Blue) Smith and Spectacular Smith, their cousin Corey (Slick ’Em) Mathis, and Marcus (Pleasure P) Cooper. Pleasure P was the lead singer, while the others rapped. After Pleasure P left in 2007, the group added new vocalists.
The name Pretty Ricky comes from a character on the TV show Martin. They started by performing locally in Miami and were helped by producer Jim Jonsin. Their first big hit was Flossin’ on local radio in 2002. In 2004 they released Grind With Me, which reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went Platinum, helping them sign with Atlantic Records.
Their debut album Bluestars came out on May 17, 2005. It reached #16 on the Billboard 200 and soon went Gold. The second single, Your Body, reached #12. In 2005 they toured on Scream Tour IV with artists like Omarion and Bow Wow.
From their second album Late Night Special, the first single On the Hotline released in 2006 and went Platinum, reaching #97 on the Hot 100. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in January 2007. The next single, Push It Baby, featuring Sean Paul, did not chart well.
Pleasure P left the group in 2007 and was replaced by Carl Lovett and then Christopher Myers. A planned 2008 album, Eighties Babies, was shelved because of leaks and creative differences. In 2009 they released a self-titled album on the independent label Big Cat Records, which charted briefly. They released more singles in 2010, an EP called Topless, and a 2011 mixtape, Sex Music Vol. 1.
After a break, Pretty Ricky released a non-charting single, Puddles, in 2015, marking Pleasure P’s return. In 2019 they joined The Millennium Tour with other R&B acts. On February 21, 2020, they released a new single called Body, ahead of a reunion album.
Baby Blue, who later appeared on Love & Hip Hop: Miami, pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme to file fraudulent loan applications for more than $24 million in PPP loans and used the money for luxury purchases, including a Ferrari.
