Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School
Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School is a private, four-year Catholic high school for boys and girls in Wichita, Kansas. It is run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wichita.
The school opened in 1971 from the merger of Chaplain Kapaun Memorial High School and Mount Carmel Academy. It sits on the east side of Wichita. The colors are blue and white, and the teams are called the Crusaders. They compete in Kansas KSHSAA Class 5A in the Greater Wichita Athletic League.
About 850 students attend, with a student-teacher ratio of around 13 to 1. The school offers sports, performing arts, clubs, and publications. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association. The school newspaper is the Paladin and the yearbook is the Crusader. Tuition uses a stewardship-based model rather than a traditional fee.
In 2006–2007, the school completed a $2.3 million expansion that added restrooms, updated art and debate rooms, new teacher lounges, and a student commons area.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel has won many state championships across sports and academics. The boys golf team holds the national record with 34 state championships as of 2024. The school has also won state titles in science Olympiad (2003–2007) and Scholars Bowl (1996, 2001, 2002, 2013, 2017, 2024), and Eco-Meet (2005, 2006).
