Kane McAuliffe

Kane McAuliffe is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Richmond Football Club in the AFL. Born on 1 March 2005, he is an inside midfielder who wears number 28 and stands 188 cm tall. He made his AFL debut in Round 4, 2024 against St Kilda at Norwood Oval. Richmond drafted him with pick 40 in the 2023 national draft. Before turning professional, he played for North Adelaide in the SANFL and grew up in Port Augusta, South Australia.

McAuliffe excelled in both football and basketball as a junior. He boarded at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide from age 14, captained North Adelaide’s under-16 side, and later captained his school team. He played for North Adelaide’s under-18s and in the SANFL reserves, while overcoming a groin injury. He represented South Australia at the 2023 under-18 national championships and posted strong results at the AFL Draft Combine (5th fastest 20m sprint, 95 cm vertical jump).

After joining Richmond, he impressed in the VFL with strong disposal and clearances, earning his AFL debut in 2024. By the end of 2024 he had played 9 AFL games and 6 VFL games, and by round 14 of 2025 he had accumulated around 14 AFL games with 0 goals. He is a left-foot kicker known for winning the ball and driving through the midfield. His father also played football at Port Adelaide, and McAuliffe’s nickname is The Future.
