Enhydris

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Enhydris is a genus of snakes that are slightly venomous and have rear fangs. They belong to the family Homalopsidae and live in tropical regions of the Indo-Australian area.

There are six recognized species in this genus. Over time, some species that were once placed in Enhydris have been moved to other genera, such as Subsessor and Pseudoferania.

One species, Enhydris smithi, has had mixed status: some scientists treated it as a valid species, while others consider it the same as Enhydris jagorii.

Notes:
- A binomial authority written in parentheses means the species was originally described in a different genus.
- The names jagorii and smithi honor Fedor Jagor and Malcolm Arthur Smith, respectively.
