Tryphon rutilator

- Where it lives: Across much of Europe and Siberia, also in the Near East and parts of Asia.

- Habitat: Commonly found in hedgerows and similar shrubs.

- Size and look: Body about 7–11 mm long; forewings 5–9 mm. Black body with a reddish abdomen. Legs mostly yellow-reddish, with black on the hind legs. Head slightly flattened at the back. Long yellow antennae with about 29–35 segments. A faint ridge on the forehead (frons).

- When to see: Adults are active from June to July.

- Diet: Feeds on nectar from carrot-family flowers (Apiaceae), especially cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) and hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium).
