KTM X-Bow
The KTM X-Bow is an ultra-light, open-cockpit two-seat sports car from Austrian maker KTM. It debuted in 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show and was developed with design help from KISKA, Audi and Dallara. It uses a carbon-fiber monocoque to keep weight very low.
Power and drive
- Base X-Bow: 2.0-liter turbocharged Audi inline-4, about 237 hp. Available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Holinger sequential gearbox. 0-60 mph in about 3.9 seconds, top speed around 217 km/h (135 mph). Front tires 205/45 ZR17, rear tires 235/40 ZR18. Brakes are Brembo with large discs.
- X-Bow R/RR: more power, around 300 hp, for stronger performance.
Variants and what makes them different
- X-Bow GTX: a longer-wheelbase, track-only version using the 2.5-liter Audi TFSI inline-5 engine. Transmission via a 6-speed Holinger sequential gearbox.
- X-Bow GT-XR: a high-end, long-wheelbase racer with the 2.5-liter I5, tuned around 493 hp, and a 7-speed DSG. Heavier (about 1,250 kg) but very fast, with 0-60 mph in roughly 3.4 seconds and top speed around 280 km/h.
- X-Bow GT: a road-friendly variant with a windscreen and side windows. Uses the same 2.5-liter I5 engine as the GTX/GT-XR family, but with a lighter, more refined setup and about 847 kg dry weight. 0-60 mph around 4.1 seconds; top speed near GT-XR levels.
- X-Bow GT4 and GT4 Evo: closed-cockpit racing versions built with Reiter Engineering. They keep a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a 6-speed sequential gearbox, but with a longer wheelbase and racing upgrades. GT4 Evo (2019) increased power to about 375 hp for improved straight-line speed while keeping strong cornering.
- X-Bow GT2 Concept: a GT2-spec race car based on the GTX/GT-XR line, revealed in 2020–2021 for the GT2 European Series.
- Evo kits: KTM introduced an Evo upgrade in 2025 with more power and aero improvements.
Production and racing
- KTM originally aimed to build 500 cars per year but expanded to about 1,000 annually and opened a new plant near Graz to meet demand.
- The X-Bow has been KTM’s flagship road car and has been used in events like the Race of Champions since 2008. The X-Bow Battle racing series began in 2010, with various podiums and race entries in GT4 and other series.
- It has appeared in several video games and racing titles.
In short, the KTM X-Bow is a deliberately lightweight, highly focused sports car family, available in multiple versions that range from a street-friendly road car to serious track machines, all built around a carbon-fiber chassis and shared Audi powerplants.
