The Justin Winsor Prize was an American Historical Association award designed to encourage new writers to study history in the Western Hemisphere, at a time when European history dominated the field. It began in 1896 and was named after Justin Winsor (1831–1897), a founder and president of the AHA and longtime Librarian of Harvard University. The prize was discontinued in 1938. This prize is not the same as the current Justin Winsor Prize, which is awarded annually by the Library History Round Table of the American Library Association for the best library-history essay.
