Jurong Group Representation Constituency
The Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) was a five-member voting district in the West region of Singapore. It was created in 2001 from most of the old Bukit Timah GRC and parts of Hong Kah GRC and the Bukit Gombak SMC. It had five divisions—Bukit Batok East, Clementi, Jurong Central, Jurong Spring, and Taman Jurong—and was managed by the Jurong–Clementi Town Council.
Election history highlights:
- 2001: The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) won about 80% of the vote against the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
- 2006: PAP team ran unopposed.
- 2011: PAP won about 67% of the vote against the National Solidarity Party (NSP).
- 2015: Bukit Batok division left to form Bukit Batok SMC; Clementi division from West Coast GRC was added, keeping five seats. The PAP team, led by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, won about 79% against SingFirst.
- 2020: Incumbents Desmond Lee and Ang Wei Neng moved to West Coast GRC; Xie Yao Quan stood for PAP after Ivan Lim withdrew amid online controversy. The PAP team won about 75% against Red Dot United.
- 2023: Tharman resigned from Parliament to run for the presidency.
Abolition and aftermath:
Jurong GRC was dissolved before the 2025 general election. About 2,776 voters joined Holland–Bukit Timah GRC, while the remaining voters were split among Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC, Jurong Central SMC, and West Coast–Jurong West GRC.
