Jurijs Ševļakovs

Jurijs Ševļakovs (born 24 January 1959 in Moscow) is a former Latvian football defender who became a coach. He stands 1.81 m tall.

He began his youth career with CSKA Moscow and started his senior career in 1981 with Cement Novorossiysk. He spent most of the 1980s at Daugava Rīga, playing over 330 games and scoring nine goals. In 1991 he moved to Ilves Tampere in Finland, played for Vantaan Pallo-70 in 1992, and then returned to Ilves in 1993. He finished his playing days with Skonto Rīga (1994–1997), helping the team win the Latvian league, Virslīga, four times.

Internationally, Ševļakovs represented Latvia from 1992 to 1997, earning 44 caps and scoring two goals. He was the national team captain for much of this period, including a standout 1997 game at home when he scored both goals in Latvia’s 2–0 victory over Belarus.

After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching. He started with Skonto’s reserve team, then became assistant manager for Latvia U21 under Jurijs Andrejevs. When Andrejevs became Latvia’s national team coach, Ševļakovs took over as Latvia U21 manager. He later served as an assistant manager for Skonto and for the Latvia national team.
