Diel Breull
Diel Breull was a German man executed for witchcraft in Hesse, Germany, in 1632. In 1629 he was banished for using a crystal ball to practice magic, but he returned the next year and was arrested. He claimed that after his family died in 1622, he woke on a mountain of Venus, where the goddess Holda (called “Fraw Holt”) showed him the dead in Heaven and Hell in a mirror and said he was a “night traveler.” He said he would visit Venus Mountain four times a year to get a rich harvest. After being tortured, he changed his story to say Venus Mountain was a Witches’ Sabbath where he swore himself to Satan. He was convicted of sorcery and executed in 1632.
