Julia Gran is an American graphic designer and children's book illustrator. She was born in New York City. She studied animation at the High School of Art and Design and then graduated from Parsons School of Design. She worked as a designer and art director for several studios and book and magazine publishers. Influenced by Paul Rand and Saul Bass, she blends clean design with playful illustration. She has created brands for fashion, food, and institutions, and she has taught at Marymount Manhattan College. Gran is known for illustrating children’s picture books, including Princess Penelope and Princess Penelope Takes Charge. She wrote and illustrated Big Bug Surprise. She has won awards, including a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Educational Press Association of America (now the Association of Educational Publishers) for 321 Contact.
