José Trajano Mera

José Trajano Mera Iturralde (1862–1919) was an Ecuadorian poet, playwright and diplomat. He was born in Ambato, Ecuador, and died in Guayaquil at age 56 or 57. He came from a literary family; his father, Juan León Mera, wrote Ecuador's first novel Cumanda and the words to the National Anthem. He earned a law degree from the Central University of Ecuador. He died in 1919 while serving as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
