José Cuervo is a country song written and first recorded by Cindy Jordan in 1981. Shelly West released it as a single in February 1983 from her solo album West by West. The song reached No. 1 on the country charts, giving West her second career No. 1 since her 1981 duet with David Frizzell, "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma." The track helped boost Jose Cuervo tequila sales and boosted West’s solo career. The song is about a woman who drank too much Jose Cuervo tequila the night before, and its follow-up in 1983 was the Top 5 hit "Flight 309 to Tennessee."
