John Thomas Steen Jr. (born circa 1949) is a lawyer from San Antonio, Texas. He served as the 108th Secretary of State of Texas from November 27, 2012, to January 2014, after being appointed by Governor Rick Perry when Esperanza Andrade stepped down. Steen, a Republican, was succeeded by Nandita Berry. He holds a BA from Princeton University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin, and he served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. In addition to his time as secretary, he has been a Texas Department of Public Safety commissioner, chaired the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for ten years, and served on the Texas Commission on Economy and Efficiency. He is married to Ida Louise Clement Steen and has three children: John T. Steen III, Ida "Illa" Louise Larkin Steen Gaunt, and James Higbie Clement "Jamey" Steen.
