This Magnificent Cake!
This Magnificent Cake! is a 44-minute stop-motion animated short from Belgium, France and the Netherlands, directed by Marc James Roels and Emma de Swaef. The film, in French and Dutch, explores the history of Belgian colonialism in Africa. It premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and has won several awards, including the André-Martin Prize at Annecy 2018, the Grand Prix at Animafest Zagreb 2018, the Grand Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2018, and the National Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand 2019. It received an honorable mention at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018 and a César Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 2020 César Awards.
