John Guppy (businessman)

John Guppy is the owner of Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing, a company that helps soccer teams with marketing. He was the Executive Vice President of the MetroStars until 2005. In 2005, former Chicago Fire owners AEG chose him to replace Peter Wilt as president and CEO in Chicago, a move that angered many fans and sparked protests. He led the Fire’s move from Soldier Field to Toyota Park in Bridgeview in 2006. Crain’s Chicago Business named him one of Chicago’s 40 Under 40 top business leaders. He served as president and CEO of the Fire until he left on April 11, 2008, when new owners Andell Holdings took over. John Guppy was born in Winchester, England. He graduated from New Hampshire College in 1970 and from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1992. He now lives in Naperville, Illinois with his family. He is the cousin of former England national team midfielder Steve Guppy.
