Joey O'Brien (American football)

Joey O'Brien is a college football safety for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He went to La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, where he excelled on offense and defense. As a junior, he was the MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division and earned first-team All-State as a wide receiver. He also played basketball and was invited to Nike's Next Ones training camp by the Philadelphia Eagles before Super Bowl LIX. In his senior year, he was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year after strong receiving stats and solid defense, helping La Salle win the 6A state championship. O'Brien was a five-star recruit and the top recruit in Pennsylvania for the 2026 class. He committed to Notre Dame and joined as an early enrollee in January 2026, choosing ND over Clemson, Oregon, and Penn State. His parents were athletes at Cumberland University, and he has siblings who also competed in college sports.
