Joe Dolan (footballer)
Joe Dolan (born 27 May 1980) is a retired football defender who represented Northern Ireland at youth level. Born in Southwark, England, he started at Chelsea as a trainee but never played for their first team. He moved to Millwall in 1998, making 49 league appearances and scoring 3 goals. He spent time on loan at Crawley Town, Stockport County and Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Leyton Orient in 2005. After more loan spells, he left the Football League and played for many non-league clubs, including Canvey Island and Basingstoke Town (where he made more than 140 appearances and scored seven goals). He also played for Carshalton Athletic, Croydon Athletic, Cray Wanderers, Kingstonian, Bromley, Staines Town and Havant & Waterlooville (scoring once). He finished his playing career with Metropolitan Police and Walton Casuals, retiring in 2013.
Internationally, Dolan earned 5 caps for Northern Ireland U18 between 1998 and 1999, and 6 caps for Northern Ireland U21 between 1999 and 2000. He made his U18 debut on 24 August 1998 in a 2–1 win over Wales, and his U21 debut on 8 October 1999 against Finland.
After retiring, Dolan moved to Australia and earned a UEFA A Licence. He began coaching and working in football education, including a role at Crystal Palace in 2013 as Under-12 coach and Head of Education and Welfare. In 2015 he became Director of Football at The Southport School in Australia.
