The Lonely Hill, also called Gushan, is a small hill on the south side of Gushan Town, a northern suburb of Jingjiang in Jiangsu Province, China. It lies about 5–6 km north of Jingjiang’s city center and is one of the area’s main nature spots.

Jiangsu sits on the flat alluvial plain of the Yangtze River. Lonely Hill is the only hill in a large flat area, located roughly 6 km north of the Yangtze.

Thousands of years ago, the Lonely Hill was a tiny island in the Yangtze estuary and the only piece of dry land in today’s Jingjiang area. It is believed to have become surrounded by land around 1488.

On top of the hill stands a Buddhist temple called Gushan Si (The Lonely Hill Temple), and the nearby town is named after the hill. The hill is said to resemble a sitting lion. It is 53 meters tall and covers about 5.8 hectares (50,000 square meters).

The Lonely Hill is covered with old trees, flowers, and bushes. It is said to have formed about 1,800 years ago.

On the hill’s western slope lies the Gushan Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery, which covers about 107 mu (roughly 18 acres). It holds about 1,522 buried people: 1 from peasant wars, 336 from the Second Sino-Japanese War, 998 from the Chinese Civil War, 106 from the Korean War, and 81 who died during socialist construction.

Location coordinates: 32°3′56.7″N 120°18′12.2″E (approximately 32.065750°N, 120.303389°E).
