Jimmy Cooper (musician)
Jimmy Cooper (1907–1977) was a Scottish hammered dulcimer player. He was born in Coatbridge, near Glasgow, and started playing the dulcimer around age 12. In the 1920s he played in dance halls and busked on the streets. He did various jobs, including driving buses, driving an ambulance for a children's home, and running a dance band. His music included traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, as well as pop and show tunes. He gained wider attention during the folk revival in the early 1970s and inspired younger players like John McCutcheon and Malcolm Dalglish. McCutcheon called him “the most complete dulcimer player” he had met.
