Jim Thomson (Scottish cricketer)
Jim Thomson (James Thomson) was a Scottish cricketer born on 13 February 1940 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. He played club cricket for Kilmarnock and represented Scotland as a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. Thomson made his Scotland first-class debut against Ireland at Greenock in 1962. After a 22-year gap, he returned for a second first-class match against Ireland in Glasgow in 1984, one of the longest gaps between first-class appearances. He played a third and final first-class match the following year, again against Ireland, at Dublin. Regarded as Scotland’s premier slow left-arm bowler, he took 7 wickets in his three first-class games, with a best of 4 for 116. He also appeared in two List A matches in the 1985 Benson & Hedges Cup, against Derbyshire at Aberdeen and Nottinghamshire at Glasgow. Jim Thomson died on 21 September 2022 in Ayr, aged 82.
