Jay Niemann
Jay Niemann (born November 27, 1960) is an American college football coach. He is the University of Iowa's assistant defensive line coach, a position he has held since 2019. Born in Harlan, Iowa, Niemann played college football as a linebacker at Iowa State University from 1979 to 1982 and earned degrees from Iowa State (1983) and Western Washington University (1988).
His coaching career has included stops at Western Washington, Washington, Drake, Northern Iowa, Simpson College (head coach from 2002 to 2007), Hardin–Simmons, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, and Wyoming before joining Iowa. As head coach at Simpson College, he posted a 33–28 record with one NCAA Division III playoff appearance.
Niemann has two sons, Nick and Ben Niemann, who are linebackers in the NFL.
