Jan Sobilo
Jan Sobilo (born Jan Władysław Sobiło on 31 May 1962 in Nisko, Poland) is a Polish-born Ukrainian Roman Catholic bishop. He serves as Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia and as the Titular Bishop of Bulna, a position he has held since 30 October 2010.
Early life and education
Sobilo was born into a Roman Catholic family in Nisko. He studied at the Major Theological Seminary in Lublin and the Catholic University of Lublin, earning a Master of Sacred Theology in 1986.
Priesthood and work in Ukraine
He was ordained a priest on 13 December 1986 by Bolesław Pylak. He worked as an assistant parish priest in Poland from 1986 to 1991, then moved to Ukraine. From 1991 he served as a parish priest in Manykivtsi (1991–1993) in the Kamianets-Podilskyi diocese, and from 1993 he worked as a parish priest in Zaporizhia. Since 2002 he has been the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia. He also led the creation of the Co-Cathedral of God the Father Merciful, which was completed and consecrated in 2004.
Episcopal appointment
On 30 October 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Kharkiv-Zaporizhia and Titular Bishop of Bulna. He was consecrated as a bishop on 8 December 2010 by Bishop Marian Buczek and other prelates of the Catholic Church.
