Jan Łasicki
Jan Łasicki (Latin: Johannis Lasitii or Lasicius; 1534–1602) was a Polish historian and theologian. He was well educated and traveled widely in Western Europe from 1556 to 1581. He converted to Calvinism around 1557 and joined the Unity of the Brethren in 1567. His main work was the eight-volume Historia de origine et rebus gestis fratrum Bohemicorum, but only one volume survived, published in 1660, about the customs and organization of the Brethren. He also wrote Historia de ingressu Polonorum in Valachiam cum Bogdano (1584) about Poland’s invasion of Wallachia; this was translated into Polish by Władysław Syrokomla in 1855. Another notable work is De diis Samagitarum caeterorumque Sarmatarum et falsorum Christianorum (circa 1582; published 1615), which lists the gods of the Samagitians and other peoples and is an important source for Lithuanian mythology.
