James Joyce Bridge
James Joyce Bridge, or Droichead James Joyce, is a road bridge over Dublin’s River Liffey. It connects the south quays to Blackhall Place on the north side. The bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It is a single-span steel bridge with two outward-angled arches, so the deck looks like an open book. It was built by Irishenco Construction using prefabricated steel from Harland and Wolff in Belfast. It opened on 16 June 2003, Bloomsday, and is named after the Dublin writer James Joyce. The house at 15 Usher’s Island, facing the bridge on the south side, inspired the setting of his short story "The Dead."
