Jai Pratap Singh
Jai Pratap Singh (born 7 September 1953) is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has represented the Bansi assembly constituency in Siddharthnagar district seven times since 1989. He served as Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Excise and Liquor Prohibition from March 2017 to August 2019. After a cabinet reshuffle, he became the Minister of Health and Family Welfare (including Mother and Child Welfare) from August 2019 to March 2022 in the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Born in Dumraon, Bihar, to Raja Rudra Pratap Singh, he studied at Mayo College, Ajmer (higher secondary, 1970) and earned a BA (Honours) from KC College, Mumbai (1974). He is married to Basundhara Kumari since 1983 and has two sons. He is a farmer by profession and resides in Rajmahal, Bansi, Siddharthnagar.
In the 2017 elections, he defeated SP candidate Lal Ji by 18,942 votes. He has been an MLA seven times and has been a key BJP leader from Bansi.
