Sisha Jumrha
Sishujhumra is a small census town in West Bengal, India. It lies in the Madarihat-Birpara community development block, Alipurduar subdivision, Alipurduar district, in the eastern Dooars region near the Himalayas. The town covers about 4.27 square kilometers.
As of the 2011 census, Sishujhumra had a population of 4,130 people (2,116 males and 2,014 females) with 537 children aged 0–6. There were 2,631 literate residents, making the literacy rate about 73.2% for people over 6 years old.
The broader Alipurduar district is mostly rural, with forests, hills, and many rivers. A large share of residents belong to Scheduled Castes and Tribes, especially in the northern blocks.
Civic amenities include water supply from treated taps, tube wells, and bore wells. There are about 400 domestic electricity connections and one street light. Health facilities consist of a dispensary/health centre, a charitable hospital, and a medicine shop, plus a 6-bed primary health centre in Sishujhumra.
Education in the town includes one primary school and one middle school. The nearest secondary school is in Dim Dim, and the nearest degree college is in Birpara, about 8 km away. The town also has two shorthand/typewriting/vocational training institutes, three non-formal education centres, and one special school for the disabled.
Two main local products are paddy (rice) and furniture. Banking services include one nationalised bank, one private bank, and one non-agricultural credit society.
