Jack Thomas (swimmer)
Jack Thomas (born 30 May 1995) is a British para-swimmer from Swansea. He competes in the S14 class for swimmers with intellectual disabilities, mainly in freestyle and backstroke at shorter distances. He has swum for Swansea University.
Career highlights: He began competing for Great Britain in 2013, finishing fifth in the 100m backstroke S14 and sixth in the 200m individual medley SM14. In 2014, he represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won bronze in the 200m freestyle S14 (time 2:01.27). At the IPC European Championships in Eindhoven that year, he won bronze in the 50m backstroke and silvers in the 200m medley SM14 and the 200m freestyle S14, and also swam the 100m backstroke S14.
A wrist injury kept him from the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow. In 2017 he raised money to compete in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Early life: He was born in Swansea to Mark and Wendy Thomas and was diagnosed with learning difficulties at age two. He started swimming at four to burn off energy. His family helped push for changes so that children with intellectual disabilities could compete in Britain, leading to a policy change in 2008.
